Fortnum Narrow Herringbone gives richly weathered Antique French Oak an intimate, intricate rhythm. The 70 × 350mm blocks bring frequent changes in grain direction, revealing deep chocolate-brown tones, darker markings and the distinctive surface character of timber whose history reaches back to the seventeenth century.
A favourite among our makers, Fortnum rewards the time and expertise devoted to its restoration in our British workshops. Original patina is carefully preserved, while hand-polished undulations retain the gentle movement of the antique surface. Hand-rolled edges softly define each block, adding depth to the herringbone arrangement.
Burnished Hardwax Oil Satin enriches the oak’s dark colouring and gives the surface a restrained lustre. Each block combines a 20mm, two-ply engineered construction with a nominal 4–6mm wear layer, preparing this historic material for continued use.
Fortnum Narrow Herringbone is UKTR compliant and should be maintained using Care System 2. Complementary architectural details are available on request; your Woodworks Specification Consultant can help carry the timber’s tonal character through stairs, thresholds and adjoining spaces.
