Carbonised wall cladding defines this landmark commercial development at the heart of Miami’s urban oasis.

One of the most ambitious commercial projects in North America, the Starwood Property Trust Headquarters on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, was completed in 2023. Designed by Gensler with interiors by Clive Lonstein, Inc., the scheme places wellness and sustainability at its core.

Across 13,417 sqm, Woodworks Moth is used as wall cladding to form a defining feature, from the soaring multi-storey reception through to meeting rooms and principal office walls. A bespoke extra-wide slat wall detail was developed exclusively for this project, extending the material palette into joinery, furniture, and even lift cabins.

Positioned at the intersection of city and shoreline, the development blends the vibrancy of modern Miami with the elegance of its Art Deco heritage. Glass facades, open walkways, and outdoor collaborative areas reflect a workplace concept that is both contemporary and connected to its surroundings.

In 2022, the South Florida Business Journal honoured the project with the Best Architecture/Design Award, cementing its status as a future landmark of the Miami skyline.

Carbonised collection

Ancient craft of yakisugi

Moth is from our Carbonised Collection, a very special collection of timber inspired by ‘Yakisugi’. Yakisugi is the time-honoured Japanese art of charring wood, unlocking deep, organic tones within the grain. Using reclaimed pine, larch, oak, and antique elm, the process enhances the grain, creating bold textures and rich tones. A technique that demands patience and precision, each board is uniquely defined, making every floor a one-of-a-kind statement. The Carbonised collection showcases unique contours and textures, resulting in floors with unparalleled character and individuality. This time-intensive preparation and burning process ensures that each piece is distinctive, making the Carbonised collection a standout choice for those seeking a bold and authentic wood flooring option.
